It is with great pride that 1800wheelchair announces our nineteeth scholarship awardee - Melanie Oakes of Lakeland University. We again received a great response, with hundreds of students submitting essays.
Please check out her personal statement, poem and art work here. Everyone at 1800wheelchair.ca wishes the best of luck to our latest winner.
We would also like to take this opportunity to announce our next scholarship. Established in 2009, the 1800wheelchair scholarship fund now bestows one or two $500 awards each year. For our next scholarship, we are going to repeat our visual contest. Please submit a 'visual poem', in a style of your
choosing, on the theme of overcoming a personal challenge. Limit
your 'visual poem' to an 8.5in x 11in piece of paper. You can
choose to represent words, images, or both. It can abstract or
representational. Please include a personal statement that gives us
an idea of who you are and how your poem relates to a challenge
you've faced. The poem and essay (combined) should be between 500
and 1,000 words, but feel free to write a little more or less.
Note: We will not be able to return any submissions.
Your application should include:
